The Lost City of Atlantis
The legend of the lost city of Atlantis is one of the oldest
mysteries in the world. More than 2000 years ago, the
famous philosopher Plato wrote about a magical island
that disappeared into the ocean in just one day and one
night. Ever since, people have been searching for this
lost island, trying to solve the mystery.
Plato described Atlantis as a magical place with
palaces, temples, fountains with hot and cold water,
and buildings and statues covered with gold.
The city was built on a hill and surrounded by canals.
A huge canal connected the city to the ocean.
The Atlantians were wealthy and well educated and
Atlantis was a powerful empire. For a long time
everything was peaceful, but as time passed the people
became greedy. Plato told people that the god Zeus
became furious with the Atlantians and decided to
teach them a lesson. Plato ends his story here,
so nobody knows what really happened.
According to Plato, Atlantis existed 11000 years ago
and was located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
Several scientists have tried to find Atlantis, and there
are many theories as to where it was located and why it
disappeared. No one has found it yet. So perhaps the
story of Atlantis is just a myth? What do you think?
Do you believe in the lost city of Atlantis?
